Hi! I’m Barbara, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I’ve spent a lifetime baking Southern desserts, and I still believe there’s nothing better than pulling a homemade pie or cake out of the oven and watching family and friends gather around the table.
Easy Southern Desserts was created to help home bakers discover that classic Southern baking doesn’t have to feel complicated. With clear instructions, thoroughly tested recipes, and a little encouragement along the way, I want every recipe you make to become one you’ll come back to again and again.
My baking story
My love of baking started in high school with a well-loved Betty Crocker cookbook and a batch of homemade snickerdoodles.
Not every recipe was a success. One memorable banana pie—made from a recipe in Seventeen magazine—was an unforgettable flop. But somewhere between those early kitchen disasters and countless homemade pies, cakes, cobblers, and puddings, baking became a lifelong passion.
I was also lucky enough to have a mother-in-law who loved cooking just as much as I did. She welcomed my experiments (successful or not!) into her kitchen and encouraged me to keep learning. Together, those years shaped the way I still develop recipes today: patiently, thoughtfully, and with plenty of testing.
Why I created Easy Southern Desserts
After creating hundreds of trusted Southern recipes for Butter & Baggage, I realized I wanted a place dedicated entirely to desserts.
Southern desserts deserve a home of their own.
They’re the recipes people request for birthdays, holidays, church suppers, family reunions, neighborhood potlucks, and Sunday dinners. They’re the recipes that become traditions and are passed from one generation to the next.
That’s exactly what Easy Southern Desserts is here to celebrate.
My philosophy
I believe homemade desserts should feel approachable, not intimidating.
Every recipe is carefully tested so you can bake with confidence, whether you’re making your very first pie or your hundredth.

Life outside the kitchen
When I’m not baking, you’ll usually find me spending time with my husband, our two daughters, our son-in-law, and freinds who happily volunteer as my official taste testers.
They’ve sampled more pies, cakes, puddings, cobblers, and cookies than they can probably count, and they’re honest enough to tell me when something isn’t quite right.
Their feedback helps ensure every recipe you see here is one I’d proudly serve at my own table.
