Chocolate Lava Cake You Can Make in the Slow Cooker
Made with pantry staples and chocolate chips, this chocolate lava cake comes together in one bowl and cooks right in the slow cooker. A simple cocoa and sugar topping plus hot water create a warm, fudgy sauce underneath while the cake bakes on top. It’s an easy, hands-off dessert that’s ready to serve with a scoop of ice cream when you want something rich without turning on the oven.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together ¾ cups sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt.
Add melted butter, milk and vanilla and stir to combine. Mix in the chocolate chips. Spread evenly into the bottom of the slow cooker.
In a small bowl, combine ½ cup sugar, brown sugar and 3 tablespoons cocoa powder. Mix together and sprinkle over the chocolate mixture in the slow cooker.
Pour very hot water over the top. Do not stir.
Cook on high for 1 ½ to 2 hours. Check at 1 ½ hours, there should be some gooey parts when a knife is inserted, but the top should be slightly firm to the touch.
Serve immediately, it will continue to cook in the slow cooker even if it has been turned off.
Notes
Reheat: Warm individual portions gently in the microwave. It will not be quite as molten as when it was freshly cooked, but it will still taste rich and chocolatey.
