The Best Brown Sugar Cream Cheese Frosting

A rich homemade frosting that’s not too sweet and is thick enough to pipe onto your favorite cupcakes or spread on your favorite cake or cinnamon rolls. It uses both powdered sugar and brown sugar with a touch of cinnamon for that perfect combination.

Take a break from regular cream cheese frosting and whip up this creamy brown sugar cream cheese frosting. The brown sugar adds a nice molasses flavor that gives the frosting a nice warmth and goes great with some pecans sprinkled on top.

It’s perfect for topping Carrot Cake Cupcakes, or a Banana Layer Cake. If you’ve got 5 minutes, you can make this easy frosting recipe using ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Using your stand mixer, you’ll beat all the ingredients together. From there, you can either refrigerate or freeze it or use it right away.

Cream Cheese frosting are my favorite, not only for the flavor the cream cheese adds but the extra thickness it adds to the frosting. This makes it the ideal type of frosting to pipe as it will easily hold its shape.

It’s so much fun adding different flavors to a basic cream cheese frosting recipe to mix things up and bring out the flavors in your baked goods. Brown sugar is a natural for any of the Fall and Winter flavored cakes like apple, banana, and carrot, but also keep it in mind for topping cinnamon rolls.

Think of this creamy frosting any time you might use a caramel frosting. It comes together so quickly and you don’t have to turn on the stove!

Tips and Tricks for Foolproof Results

  • Use room temperature butter and cream cheese so your frosting doesn’t clump.
  • If you don’t have a stand mixer, use an electric hand mixer and a large bowl to make the frosting.
  • If the frosting is too thick, add milk or cream to get your desired consistency. On the other hand, add more powdered sugar if it’s too thin or try putting it in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
